About the Director

Shazia khan was born in Srinagar, Kashmir.
From Kashmir her education brought her to Delhi, where she completed her Masters in Mass Communication from Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.
At 23, she directed her first documentary on the Onam festival of Kerela for the Dutch National Broadcast Television and Organisation Hindu Media. Since then she has directed more than 10 documentaries, and her journey on these has been one of discovery and creative satisfaction.
She is also a leading videographer having shot for TARA Channel, BBC World Trust , The Ford Foundation and most of her films.
Since the inception of her company ‘Saffron Films’ in 2001 she has produced, directed, co-directed and shot over 50 films for international channels like Dutch National Broadcast Television, NMO, OHM, France-2, and Press Tv, Iran.
Caravan her documentary about the journey of Islam in India was awarded the BEST DOCUMENTARY in the India international women’s film festivalin 2008.
Caravan and Salaam India were screened at the Al-Jazeera International documentary film festival (2010), Kazan International documentary film festival (2010) and Kerala international documentary film festival (2010).
